We all know that drunk driving is dangerous. Last weekend, another victim almost lost his life because of another person's choice to drive while intoxicated.
A 20-year-old young man is currently on life support at University Hospital in Newark after his car was hit by a drunk driver. Two passengers in the victim's car were also injured. They have already been treated and released from the hospital.
Crash on the New Jersey Turnpike
The victim was driving his 1991 Honda Accord on the New Jersey Turnpike when a Mercedes-Benz SUV crashed into him. The accident caused both drivers to lose control of their vehicles and collide with a metal guardrail on the turnpike.
At the scene of the car accident, the victim was awake and alert, but his condition deteriorated after he arrived at the hospital. His brain has since developed a hemorrhage, and he is currently on life support.
Although the driver of the SUV also ran into the guard rail, he escaped the crash with minor injuries. Both passengers in the victim's Accord also suffered minor injuries.
This Tragedy Could Have Been Avoided
The driver of the SUV underwent a blood alcohol test, which was positive. Police officers also found cocaine in his car. This driver's decision to drink (and possibly do drugs) before getting behind the wheel may cost an innocent victim his life.
After his release from the hospital, officers arrested the SUV driver and charged him with assault with a vehicle, drunk driving and possession of cocaine.
